Affordable housing still a struggle in Surprise

Surprise has the lowest number of affordable rentals in the West Valley and homes are out of reach as well. Renter incomes aren’t keeping up with rents, says Matrix Design Group, Inc., and most renters are cost-burdened. As the workforce grows, the problem of affordable housing will only get worse, but luxury homes also will probably be in short supply as well. The firm presented its report to the city council, Planning and Zoning Commission and the Veterans, Disability and Human Services Commission in June.
