Affordable apartments at center of challenge from residents in Surprise

Neighborhood groups opposing an affordable housing complex in Surprise trotted out
the usual “concerns” about height (even though nothing is over four stories), traffic,
increased population at schools, and a general opposition to “lower income” people (like teachers). But in this case, they also gathered roughly 5,550 signatures so that voters may decide whether the housing gets built, if the referendum meets all legal
requirements.
